In the early years of my homeschooling journey, I believed I could manage everything on my own. Over time, however, I came to recognize the value of seeking additional support. Although I was fully capable of guiding my daughters academically, the demands of being a single mother, working part-time, and running my own business made it clear that supplemental educational assistance and accountability were essential. Hiring outside support for their education turned out to be one of the best decisions I made.
Many parents, like myself, discover that their children require more academic support than they can consistently provide during the week. Others find that their students thrive with the guidance of an external tutor. That’s where I come in.
With experience as a former third-grade teacher, a long-time homeschool mom, a Classical Conversations tutor, and a college English Composition instructor, I launched my private tutoring business, jb Tutors, LLC, in 2021. Since then, tutoring students on a regular basis has become the most fulfilling chapter of my teaching career.
With a rich and diverse background in education, I bring over two decades of experience to the field of tutoring. I began my career as a third-grade classroom teacher, serving for four years, and was a dedicated homeschool educator for seventeen years. Additionally, I spent nine years as a tutor with Classical Conversations/Challenge and currently serve as an adjunct instructor in English Composition at Oral Roberts University, a position I’ve held for over ten years.
In 2021, I founded jb Tutors, LLC -an endeavor that has been both professionally fulfilling and personally rewarding. While academic credentials are important, I believe that truly effective tutoring requires more than degrees and certifications. Qualities such as enthusiasm, a positive attitude, patience, empathy, the ability to connect with students, and the skill to present material in a clear and engaging way are essential.
That said, I am proud to hold the following professional qualifications: B.S. in Elementary Education, M.Ed. in Reading, TESOL Certificate, Oklahoma Teaching Certificate, Certificate in Online Teaching, Reading Specialist, Certified Classroom Teacher, Google Certified Educator, and College Composition Instructor.
